Plaud Note Pro
The world's most advanced physical AI note taker. 5 m pickup range with AI beamforming. Every speaker at the table, every time.
In-person recording · How-to guide
Phone microphones fail to capture multi-person conversations at table distance. A participant seated across a dinnertable-sized table is frequently inaudible in a phone recording. Fixing it requires a different device, not a different app.
Best for multi-speaker in-person capture
Quick answer
Method selection and consent happen first. Device placement determines whether every voice in the room is captured.
Inform all participants the session will be recorded and explain why (accurate notes, sharing with those who could not attend, or future reference). Confirm consent verbally after starting the recording.
AI meeting assistants record audio and generate automatic summaries and transcriptions. Smartphone apps capture audio for later processing by an AI service.
Position the recorder centrally so all speakers are at roughly equal distance from the mic. Run a short test by speaking from the far end of the table.
Click finish or stop to trigger transcription. AI tools generate a full transcript and a summary of topics and actionable items.
Methods
Compared on setup effort required, how well each method covers both in-person and phone sessions, whether speaker labels are generated, and whether transcription is included.
Convenient and always available. A single mono mic at one end of the table cannot hear participants on the far side. Battery and notification interruptions create additional risk.
Better pickup range than a phone. Requires a laptop present at the table. Cable management during the session is disruptive. Not practical for field or off-site sessions.
Good audio quality and portable. Requires a manual upload, a transcription service account, and a turnaround of hours or days before the record is usable.
4 MEMS mics with AI beamforming. 5 m pickup from one central placement. Plaud Intelligence transcribes and diarizes speakers automatically. Always record with participant consent.
Based on common in-person recording workflows and Plaud product data. Always confirm consent from all participants and follow local recording laws before recording any conversation.
Tips
Coverage, attribution, and availability are the three things a recording must deliver to be useful. Whether the device picks up all speakers at the distance they actually sit. Whether each speaker's statements are identified separately in the transcript. Whether the transcript is available without routing the file through a separate service.

Recording laws vary by jurisdiction. Many US states follow one-party consent rules. Several states require all-party consent. The safest practice is to inform all participants and confirm their consent before recording.
